Could the US-Iran war drag on until 2027?

When the US launched military action against Iran six months ago, Defense Secretary Herses pledged a swift and decisive strike to avoid a protracted conflict. However, the Wall Street Journal reported on the 2nd that sources revealed Herses is now quietly extending troop deployments, indicating that the US-Iran conflict could drag on until 2027.

The sources stated that extending deployments is part of an open military strategy, giving President Trump room for maneuver in this war. However, just as the Pentagon is fully committed, Trump has been sending conflicting signals about the next steps. In recent weeks, he has supported exerting economic pressure on Iran, hoping to force Tehran back to the negotiating table, but Iran has shown no signs of backing down.
